Spiritual Weapons

If you want to fortify yourself against demons, spirits, or evil influence there are a number of options. With the rise in interest in the paranormal there are more people than ever playing with the occult who are not prepared for it and this can cause problems for them as well for those around them. Some even dable in magic and hexes. Or maybe you just wish to strengthen your faith or be ready to help someone in need.

To start off with you should confess to God everything you can think of. This strengthens your faith, increases your righteousness and purity of spirit. It is how you should begin anything of this nature.

You can use the sign of the cross to strengthen your faith and focus. Also you can use the crusader’s oath below.

The sign of the cross  or blessing oneself or crossing oneself, is a ritual blessing made by members of many branches of Christianity. This blessing is made by the tracing of an upright cross or + across the body with the right hand, often accompanied by spoken or mental recitation of the trinitarian formula.
“In the name of the Father, the Son, and othe Holy Spirit”

The motion is the tracing of the shape of a cross in the air or on one’s own body, echoing the traditional shape of the cross of the Christian Crucifixion narrative. There are two principal forms: the one—three fingers, right to left—is exclusively used in the Eastern Orthodox churches and the Eastern Rites of the Catholic Church of the Byzantine and Chaldean Tradition; the other—left to right, other than three fingers—is the one used in the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church, Anglicanism, Methodism, Lutheranism and Oriental Orthodoxy

Crusaders’ Oath
In nomine Patris+ et Filii+ et Spiritus Sancti+. Amen
(In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit)

“Cruce, dum Spiro, fido, Deo duce, Ferro comitante”
“While I breathe, I trust the cross, with God as my leader and my sword as my companion”

Prayer for protection

Simple enough. Pray to God for protection. Construct your own prayer. Use your beads if you like. Be as vague or specific as you wish. Some like to get down to specifics. Flood, fire, civil defense or protection for the unborn. Clear your mind. Get rid of any clutter and focus on Jesus. Picture him in your mind. Imagine his love as a cloak of light surrounding you and wrapping you in his arms. His warmth, his love, his strength.

Sprinkle a few grains of salt in every corner of every room in your home. (If you vacuum it up while cleaning, just reapply as you’re vacuuming. Sprinkle or spray Holy Water on every wall, floor and ceiling (including closets and baths) in your home, and use blessed oil to seal your home and yourself with the sign of the cross on the outside and inside of each door and in the center of your own forehead. (For cleansing homes I mix the exorcised salt with water in a ‘clean’ (preferably new) spray bottle and spray each and every corner in the house, including closets, water heater rooms, furnace rooms, and also one spray in the center of the floor of each room and once on the ceiling. That way you have no salt on your carpets and when the water dries, the salt remains. The exorcised salt makes the water exorcised water also.)

Also say a prayer in each room to bless it and to ask for protection. Or some just use the standard Lord’s prayer.

These are exorcism blessings for salt and water. Only posting in English. If you want the Latin version google it. (+) is when you should make the sign of the cross over the water or salt)

Exorcism of Salt (necessary for Exorcism of Water)

O salt, creature of God, I exorcize you by the living (+) God, by the true (+) God, by the holy (+) God, by the God who ordered you to be poured into the water by Elisha the prophet, so that its life-giving powers might be restored. I exorcize you so that you may become a means of salvation for believers, that you may bring health of soul and body to all who make use of you, and that you may put to flight and drive away from the places where you are sprinkled; every apparition, villainy, turn of devilish deceit, and every unclean spirit; adjured by him who will come to judge the living and the dead and the world by fire. Amen.

Almighty and everlasting God, we humbly implore you, in your immeasurable kindness and love, to bless (+) this salt which you created and gave to the use of mankind, so that it may become a source of health for the minds and bodies of all who make use of it. May it rid whatever it touches or sprinkles of all uncleanness, and protect it from every assault of evil spirits. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Exorcism of Water in English

O water, creature of God, I exorcize you in the name of God the Father (+) Almighty, and in the name of Jesus (+) Christ His Son, our Lord, and in the power of the Holy (+) Spirit. I exorcize you so that you may put to flight all the power of the enemy, and be able to root out and supplant that enemy with his apostate angels, through the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will come to judge the living and the dead and the world by fire. Amen.

O God, for the salvation of mankind, you built your greatest mysteries on this substance, water. In your kindness, hear our prayers and pour down the power of your blessing (+) into this element, made ready for many kinds of purifications. May this, your creature, become an agent of divine grace in the service of your mysteries, to drive away evil spirits and dispel sickness, so that everything in the homes and other buildings of the faithful that is sprinkled with this water, may be rid of all uncleanness and freed from every harm. Let no breath of infection and no disease-bearing air remain in these places. May the wiles of the lurking enemy prove of no avail. Let whatever might menace the safety and peace of those who live here be put to flight by the sprinkling of this water, so that the health obtained by calling upon your holy name, may be made secure against all attack.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

(Pour exorcised salt into the water, in the form of a cross)

May a mixture of salt and water now be made, in the name of the Father, and of the (+) Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O God, Creator unconquerable, invincible King, Victor ever glorious, you hold in check the forces bent on dominating us. You overcome the cruelty of the raging enemy, and in your power you beat down the wicked foe. Humbly and fearfully do we pray to you, O Lord, and we ask you to look with favor on this salt and water which you created. Shine on it with the light of your kindness. Sanctify it by the dew of your love, so that, through the invocation of your holy name, wherever this water and salt is sprinkled, it may turn aside every attack of the unclean spirit, and dispel the terrors of the poisonous serpent. And wherever we may be, make the Holy Spirit present to us, who now implore your mercy. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sign of the Cross

You can use the sign of the cross to ward away evil. Also the saliva of a righteous man is an age old talisman for warding away evil. In a pinch if you do not have holy water on hand and you are spiritually pure at the time you can use your own saliva. You can lick your thumb and mark a cross on a wall or on the forehead of a person you wish to bless.
If you encounter evil on a lonely road or back alley you can spit on the ground and say a prayer. It may seem a little crude, but it does make sense. God has made us holy so our dna which is in the saliva is holy as well. As long as you confess your sins and strive to remain holy and don’t give in to the worlds (if it feels good do) attitude.

Jesus even used his own saliva in the Bible. John 9:1
Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind

9 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

6 After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. 7 “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.

Adventurer Skills: Potions

lum.jpg10423914_10204699858793449_8485429942573567641_nTo supplement you cooking skill, lets touch on another aspect. What would an adventurer be without his potions. All the best ones have them. That little flack with a pick me up to increase your health, focus or stamina. No adventurer goes off into the unknown without one. Brewing a potion is quite easy. It involves the simplest of cooking skills, boiling water. You just add in what you need and let it steep and or dissolve.

Lets start with my favorite. COFFEE. Yes it is that most famous potion of all that gets people through the day without killing anyone. Like tea you can buy little packets that you can dunk in water and wait. Or there are some devices that let you pour boiling water over to make proper coffee. (and yes there are instant packets that you just pour in hot water and let it dissolve. But honestly that kind kinda sucks.)

It is most peoples morning ritual. A jolt of caffeine to get you going. Provides energy and very little nutrition really. But come on, it’s coffee!

Okay after coffee lets go ahead and talk about it’s less popular sister. Tea. I like tea too. Nothing wrong with it. What it lacks in popularity it makes up for with usefulness. Comes in many types with many purposes. Best known as homeopathic remedies.

There are a few good ones to mention here.

Chamomile tea is good at calming your nerves.

Peppermint teas are good for sour throats as well as digestion.

Sleepy Time tea. This one is very good. It has a spearmint taste to it. It is mostly chamomile tea but has other stuff in it too. It helps you to sleep. I have to say after drinking this I slept hard and good. I will buy more of this one.

Black tea chai spice. This one is not bad. A bit more spice than I would like. It has ginger and other spices. Ginger root contains plant compounds — such as volatile oils and alkaloids — that help ease motion sickness, improve digestion (if taken after a meal) and reduce mucus that accompanies a cold or the flu.

Wild black cherry tea. Not so good. Like weak Koolaid. Has hawthorn berries and black berry leave. I don’t know of any benefits of these. But it also has licorice root which is good for constipation

This is just a few, there are many types of teas to look at with various benefits.
Now for the adventurer on the go. Here is a type you can brew up in the wilderness. First is pine needle tea. It is very simple. You just have to heat some water and steep some pine needles in it. Then take out the needles and drink. It is kind of tangy. Very rich in vitamin C.
The other one is a little more localized. Coconut milk is also rich in vitamins.
Now apart from things you can heat up and fix, there are many water additives you can pack in a bag or even just a pocket of your jacket. Little powders or drops that can add flavor and or nutrition to your water, just be sure to filter the water first. Any unknown water source is unsafe. You should always carry with you a container of some kind. Even if you don’t carry water with you at the time, you will have a bottle or something to put water or something into if you should need it. Like if you got trapped somewhere, you will have a bottle you can fill at a fountain or something.
A friend at work asked me once why I had a nearly empty soda bottle in my bag. It was the kind of shoulder bag with a sports bottle mesh pocket on the outside. Well I kept it for exactly that reason. I would switch it out whenever I bought a new soda, and I didn’t want to carry around one of those big sports bottles. I knew where water was should I need it so I didn’t feel the need to fill it up and carry around that weight.

Now for some less than nutrition potions, on to service potions. That is potions that are not necessarily for drinking, but for other uses.

Holy water for example. Water that has been blessed by a holy man. Or if you have any blessed salt you can add some to the water container. It is always a good idea to carry some one you. It can be used to bless an area or someone to protect them for spiritual attacks. Also if it is the only water you have  it can’t hurt to drink it.

When I was younger my brother and I would use the fountain drink machine at fast food places and gas stations to whip up some weird concoction using multiple drinks at the nozzles. Trying a splash of this and a splash of that. You never know what you were making. Sometimes it would be good sometimes it would be undrinkable. But it was always adventurous. It can add a little spice in your day. Of course you can always go to Sonic and order some weird choices. They have many add ins to their drink. Mom and I go all the time and get either a cherry vanilla coke or a vanilla cream dr. pepper. My brother like blue ocean water and I have always wanted to try a vanilla cream root beer. vanilla cream is not the same as vanilla flavoring. It is more of a sweet cream flavor.

Below are some recipes to give a try if you dare.

Bestiary: The Scarecrow

hansrtp.jpgThe scarecrow has been a favorite monster for a long time. It has been portrayed in many forms from batman to the wizard of oz. Taking on many forms. Always a figure human or otherwise dressed in tattered clothes and a cloth face that obscures any true human features to inflict fear on its victims. The traditional scarecrow is a stuffy guy made of straw placed In a garden to scare away flying predators by taking on the appearance of a worse predator.

In Christianity we have a lore of such a creature, Hans Trapp.

Hans Trapp was called the Robber Baron. He was arrested and isolated and in his isolation he lost his humanity and in his resentment for the church he became deeply devoted to satan. This devotion eventually lead to him craving human flesh especially children.
As the legend goes, this was a real man. He was rich and evil and was kicked out of the catholic church. He was exiled into the forest where he preyed on children disguised as a scarecrow complete with straw sticking out of his clothes possibly for warmth. In the legend he catches a boy and is about to eat him when he gets struck by lightning. A punishment from God. However his spirit stays restless and can still be seen stalking children who are not careful disguised as a scarecrow.

He has mostly faded away now, but grew beyond his original legend to become the prime predator. A figure of evil to hunt the most vulnerable of victims. Children.  Sometime for meals devouring human flesh, sometimes as sacrifices for whatever reason to be killed on an alter or ritual sight, sometimes to take virginity and to destroy innocence.

Connected to nature usually a field. The scarecrow will stand in an almost perverted form of the crucifixion. Which is why it makes an excellent monster for Christian lore.

Hans Trapp 5/4/8 ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Mostly popular around Halloween. Featured in several movies including the scarecrow, jeepers creepers, and many many others. Typically week against fire if it a supernatural creature. You know all that straw. If it is a human monster, they are typically vulnerable against any weapon. Except you know it you manage to take one down, don’t just run away and let them regroup like in horror movies.

So what to do to prepare for such a threat. Carry a weapon. A symbol of faith. Memorize a sword scripture and a hymn. Carry a signaling device, like a whistle. Since they mostly hunt at night travel with a friend if you must move about at night.

Light colors and their uses.

12376780_10208177590774575_5974890723751973021_n.jpgFlashlights are great. In an emergency situation you may need one and they are pretty common to find. Keep one in your car, purse anywhere where they would be handy. You can get some that are small enough to keep on your person like a keyring.

Any adventurer knows the value of a head lamp. The kind you can wear on your head and keep your hands free. You can get a decent one for about a dollar at Walmart. If you are going to do any night hiking or camping you want one that will let you keep your hands free for walking and hanging on to trees or trekking poles.

Here is Anthony’s podcast on their night hike adventure.

Our eyes have trouble adjusting to sudden changes in light. Certain lights can preserve our night vision. As well as show things in a different perspective to see things we would otherwise miss.

Red light is the softest and doesn’t hurt our eyes and allows us to see the most with our human eyes. It also allows particulates to be seen.  Like little fuzz balls and bits that our eyes usually overlook.

Blue light is most effective for reading maps in the dark and allows one to see fluids like blood for identification. Police use this in investigations as well as hunters tracking wounded animals at night. Blood will appear much darker in blue light and they can use a special chemical to make it florescent. It has also been noted that blue light is better for cutting through dense fog. This is probably why it is becoming more common for vehicles to be equipped with those expensive blue headlights.

Green light, like red as well as blue, does not attract insects but it also doesn’t spook animals or fish and is a good choice for hunters. It is most used for night vision goggles and similar equipment.

Dressing for Adventure

closet.jpgIf excitement and adventure is what your looking for you need to dress for the life you want. The clothes you wear could mean the difference between escaping danger or tripping and becoming zombie chow. (just as an lindres.jpgexample) It is important to develop your own style. You need to be comfortable, but also functional as well as looking cool. Consider the climate and environment you will be going to. You don’t want to wear something that is going to heat you up like  a crisp piece of bacon, or leave you freezing like a popsicle. Only you can know what you like. Take a look at those you look up to for ideas. Someone else’s style may inspire you, but should not impose their desires over your own. Don’t try to look exactly like anyone else. Be yourself. Anthony from Anthony’s audio Journal has taken to wearing a hiking kilt. He seems to really like it.

Base layer
Starting at the beginning. The underwear. It is not a rule, but if you want to look good, they all should match. For men you are wearing socks, underwear, and under shirt. For women panties, and bra.
Going commando is not a good option. You don’t want things rubbing around for very long and it is not sanitary. I tried it once and it was not comfortable at all and my best friend told me that she has gone without a bra and it was the most uncomfortable thing ever. In the event of an emergency you don’t want to be caught with your pants down, especially if you are not wearing underwear, and you don’t want your dangly bit above or below bobbing around.

Socks if not matching an unusual color should be white, grey, or black. These colors go with anything. For women however other colors can be gotten away with. Guys shouldsocks.jpg only go with fun socks if they want people to see them as eccentric. I wear white socks most of the time. I prefer crew cut. I hate the ankle length. It keeps my shoes from rubbing directly against my legs. Especially when I wear my work boots. I find that it keeps ticks from getting down on my feet. Pictured here Received in my Cairn subscription box. Injinji mid weight mini- crew toe socks. These socks are designed to tackle dirt paths or rocky trails. Breath well, and dry fast. actually a little thin for my taste. They are suppose to help prevent blisters and the individual toes keep them from rubbing together and support each toe. Some people like the ankle cut, but i do not. i ended up wearing regular socks over them. They were extra cushion and i like them. Going to use them for exercising, hiking and the dreaded fresh season.

Song for you.

undrjame.jpgDark colored underwear hide stains better than white or bright colors. Boxers give you a more lose fit than briefs, however briefs hold things in place better for running or more active people. There is also a hybrid boxer briefs. It is a little looser than briefs but snugger than plain boxers. The plus side of boxer shorts is that they look like shorts and are less embarrassing to be caught in unless they are the kind with the gaping hole in the front. One guy said they couldn’t stand boxer briefs because of the fly and they loose their junk in the jungle. I am not sure how you loose your junk. I have never had this problem and I always know where mine is, but I don’t judge.
As for a bra. I have never wore one, but my friend Silver said she could never stand to go without one. There are a few uses for on other than it’s initial use. If cut in half it can be used to cover you nose and mouth. The elastic can be used for something and if you have the under wire kind the wire can be useful. I heard of one woman who had a goat that could not walk because of a problem with it’s back legs and she cut little hole in an old bra and rigged up a cart like contraption that held it up and took the weight of the goats legs and eventually nursed it back to health.
An undershirt is the last to be mentioned and is usually underrated. It helps to prevent sweat from staining your shirt. Usually worn with dress clothes. There is something classy with having a white undershirt showing at the front collar. It is an extra layer of warmth if you plan to be an area with low temperatures. Or if you are in an area with higher temperatures you can strip down to it if you don’t want to be completely bare chested.

rhanidres.jpgFor the mid layer (over the base layer and under the outer layer) it is more important to consider your appearance. Big clothes make your bodies look shapeless and don’t really hide your weight. This is the appearance people are going to react to. The image you want to project to people. It has to be what you like and how you want people to see you. Professional or carefree. This is going to everyone’s first impression of you. If you plan to be very active, loose clothing is important. You don’t want to wear anything to restricting. But you also don’t want to wear anything too baggy. Such as sagging. If you are going to be in a potentially dangerous situation or one in which you may need to run or help someone you don’t want to trip over your own pants, or have extra clothing getting in the way and you sure don’t want it to get caught on anything like a machine or car door and get pulled to your death.
Something else to consider is environmental. What is the climate going to be like. Dark colors absorb heat making you hotter and white and like colors reflect more heat keeping you cooler.
My preferred shirt is a t-shirt. They are lightweight and breathe easy. Button down shirts are nice if you like that sort of thing. Buttons are easy to loose though. Plus I like to wear something with a saying or symbol on it. Long sleeve dress shirts are good if you want the elegant or business look. You should have at least one formal shirt for special occasions where it is appropriate to dress up. Weddings, funerals, formal parties. You never know when this is going to necessary. I recently was asked to be a friends best man at his wedding. I haven’t asked yet how formal it is going to be. I have a nice silky blue dress shirt I can wear with some black slacks and a tie. Add a black blazer or something and I am ready. If less formal I have a black dress t shirt that has a white shirt look with a tie on it and I can slip a black long sleeve shirt over it and you can’t even tell I am not dressed up. I fooled my family at a Christmas gathering once.

The Overshirt
An over shirt is quite useful. It can be worn as a mid layer or used as an outer layer as cover for your arms in jungle conditions to protect from scratches, cuts and brush. For warmth in cold climates. You can tie it around your waist in warmer IMG_0200.JPGweather. It can be worn as a cape fashion and carrying collections of items on your back. It can be used as a rag for whipping or as a towel for drying. It can be worn on your head as a bandanna to shield your head and neck from the sun. Put the long flap over your head and fold the collar over and tie the IMG_0203.JPGarm sleeves in the back like a turban. Good for desert conditions. You can dip it in water as a wet rag. You can twist it up and snap at things with is as a weapon or wave it around to scare away wild animals. If it is a bright color you can use it for signaling. Or getting attention at a distance. You can use it as a small blanket, a pillow, or a blindfold. You can thread useful items in it like bits of wire or safety pins. I could have temporarily fixed mom’s glasses when the screw came out if i had had a small bit of wire, but i had the wrong over shirt on at the time. The wire was IMG_0199.JPGin the green one and i was wearing the blue. Use it for a sling for a hurt or broken are or to bandage a wound. Hold it over your head when it is raining or you can find one with a hood. It has a handy breast pocket. Hold it over your face as a face mask. If it is the kind with shoulder flaps it can be used to hold things like flashlights.
My brother and I were on our way back from somewhere at night when his car over heated. He popped the hood and had a jug of water, but the radiator was hot and he couldn’t get it open and had nothing to get the cap off with. I had on an overshirt and took it off and handed it to him to twist off the cap so he could add the water. I gave him a knowing look. Everyone always makes fun of the way I dress.
I like an overshirt with a hood that I can put up when it is raining.

Pants   As for pants, I usually wear jeans. I don’t like anything else. I have a pair of cargo pants, but I don’t like the bagginess, but I do like the pockets for storage. I have found and like carpenter pants. It has a lot of pockets. It is kind of a hybrid of cargo and jeans. Denim is durable and breathes well. If you want a more business look you may want to go with slacks. I know a lot of people who wear shorts. I just hate shorts. It leaves my legs to exposed and I get a lot of scrapes and scratches.
Sweatpants are another issue. They have a bad reputation as being unclassy and of course they are. (Also have a reputation for showing off boners.) If you are comfortable with them then go for it. I use to wear them in high school, but quite when I started getting pantsed.
Coats. The outer layer. If you want something light weight you can go with a windbreaker. An over coat looks cool if you are into the dark brooding look made popular by the tv shows Angel and Constantine. One rule of thumb for a coat is that short people shouldn’t wear long coats and tall people shouldn’t wear very short ones. This is a visual effect that makes you look very short or very tall. Find something that is appropriate to your height.

Anthony’s podcast on jackets and outer layers

Anthony’s podcast on clothing and layering

These are going to be really important. You are going to be wearing them a lot. You need to consider if they will be comfy for long periods. Ladies. No high heels. If you can’t run in them don’t wear them. However I will say this about high heels. In the Buffy the vampire comics she does some serious damage with them and Elvira in the movie kicks the evil wizard in the head with one. Definitely cool.
Sneakers are good. I prefer boots. I have high tops to support my ankle and they come with water resistant and steel toes. Durable and a snake can’t bite through them. Can wade through shallow waters. They are good for rough terrain and rocky places. Another tip. Boot laces can be used for setting traps for small game and tieing off an umbilical cord.
One thing I can’t stand to wear are flip flop or sandals. I hate the openness and the thing that goes between your toes. My aunt wears these all the time. She rarely wears anything else. I just can’t see how anyone can move in those things. Of course Anthony loves his Luna sandals. He hike in them all the time. Maybe I should give them a chance, (but I doubt that will happen.)

         Hats and Flare

Now for the flare. Everyone loves their personal effects. What kind of accessories do you like. Bandannas, jewelry, hats.
There are several types of hats to consider. In the south cowboy hats and caps are the most common. The cowboy hat has a wide brim and blocks the sun from most angles. The ball cap is the next best. It is the most common. My brother had a Wal-mart cap that he wore all the time. He and our cousin one fourth of July thought it would be fun to set fireworks off on it and blow it up and dye it with the smoke bombs. It was a tattered mess after words and he loved it. He wore it all the time everywhere. It definitely got a lot of attention and looks. When he and his friends went out they would take it and throw it in the trunk of the car and would not be seen in public with him. That is how it eventually got lost. After that he wore a cubs cap for a long time.
If that is not to your taste you can wear a dew rag, that has multiple purposes like a handkerchief. There is the outback hat that is similar to a cowboy hat, but is softer and more flexible. Some fold them and keep them in their pocket. They have a string that you can hang it around your neck.
There are other uses for a hat than just to wear it. You can use it to carry things like barriers if you want to gather them. If it’s waterproof you can carry water in it.

Anthony has something to say about hats and head covers

Belts and belt buckles. You should definitely have this in your style. It holds up your pants and prevents you from getting pants. I hated that happening to me at school. I’d be minding my own business only to end up standing there with my pants around my ankles. One more reason to wear clean underwear. A belt can be used for more than holding up your pants. It can help climb a tree or pole. It can be used to tie things together or make a splint. Tie it tight enough you can slow down bleeding from an injury. More importantly it keeps you from being pantsed. A belt buckle is a large piece of metal. It can help protect from injury at your midsection. It can make a statement if you get a funny one. If it is shiny and gold you can use it for bartering. It is also considered the modern day cod piece. It draws the individual’s eyes to the groin if you have something worth showing off.
A friend from work wears a belt and attached things to it. Lots of things like batman. Looks kind of dorky unless you are a cop or something. However you can carry a lot of things this way, but it will also slow you down. It is extra weight. Determine what is useful and what is dead weight. If you carry a bag then you don’t necessarily need to carry a lot of stuff on your body.
As for jewelry rings, necklaces, ear rings, bracelets. I typically wear a cross or my shield of faith necklace. It has scripture on it. The same with my ring I wear. If you are a Christian Adventurer you should incorporate a cross into your gear. A lot of miracles come about through symbols of one’s faith.  I also have a paracord bracelet I wear. Paracord bracelets are a survival item. You can unravel them to use the sturdy cord for doing a lot of things.
If you are the formal type you can wear a tie. You can tie them around your head as a sweat band or tie off and injury. The idea is to be creative and not to let other’s opinions decide what you like. You never know what will be useful. You may even surprise yourself.
A friend of mine saw my handkerchief and was shocked. I always keep one in my back pocket. She said she didn’t think anyone carried them anymore except old people. I was a little insulted by that. There are a lot of uses for them other than blowing your nose on or whipping your forehead. You can cover your mouth with them to avoid breathing in poison, picking up something you don’t want to touch with your bare hands like collecting evidence. I cleaned off mom’s cup the other day when we got vanilla cream Dr. peppers. It spilled over the lid when she put the straw in and didn’t want it to run everywhere. It’s not just for old people.

For this lesson.

Plan out a basic outfit for average weather. An everyday sort of outfit that covers mild but not extreme weather that protects from the sun, but keeps you cool.

Bestiary Bears

Bears are one of the most common problems when hiking, camping or doing something out doors. Their is a spray you can buy that will repair them and be sure to do your cooking away from your sleeping area and store your food away as well someplace hard for them to reach. If one does wander into your area banging some pots or pans together will frighten them away. Just stay a safe distance away. They sell some repellent spray that is meant to drive them away. Do not climb trees to get away from them. Many can climb up after you and then you are stuck and can’t get away. (especially if it is a drop bear)

One trick you can try if one seems aggressive and you have no pots or loud clangy things. Look as big as possible. If you have a shirt or jacket spread it out behind your head and shoulders. They don’t get the concept of separate clothing and such.  Have a friend sit on your shoulders and wave your arms about. They might decide not to tangle with some weird two headed four armed creature.
The drop bear is a folk lore creature mostly known in Australia. It is a bloodthirsty bear that will drop on unsuspecting prey from the trees. Which is why it has a higher mind level.

You can tell the difference between a grizzly and a black bear by their ears. Grizzly have stubby round ears and protruding shoulders and an upturned snout. Black bear have tall pointed ears and flash shoulders.

Here is a link to Anthony’s audio journal. Their trip to Cathedral lakes in the second half they have an encounter with a determined hungry black bear. Give it a listen. It is kinda funny and scary at the same time. One guy looses his bear-can in the night and the bear manages to get it open. Not so bear proof after all.

I’ve become a little attached to Anthony from listening to his podcast so much on my drive to and from work. He is doing a lot of what I wish I had time (and energy) to get out and do. Maybe I should send him a link and see which house he falls into. Bet it is Behemoth.

Survival Beads

For any Christian adventurer one thing you’re going to want is your beads. These beads can be used as ranger beads (pace beads) to count your distance traveled. One side has nine beads and one side has five. The nine beads are used to count a certain distance. Say  a mile and for each mile you move one bead. When you get to ten you move all nine back and move one of the five. For ten miles and a start over again for up to 50 miles. (or whatever) Like an abacus, so it can also be used for any such math.

They double as prayer beads as well. For saying your rosary. Or for the Baptist just keeping track of  your prayers. It represents the life of a Christian as witness beads. The black bead represents your state of sin. We are all born with a sin nature. Red is the blood of Jesus that covers us and washes us clean. White is our forgiven state. Pure and holy before God. Blue is our baptism and commitment to Jesus and green represents our growth. Purple is the crown of life and yellow the glory of God in heaven. Admitting the other two beads are to bring the total to nine and any for the five others. I used glow in the dark.

Okay so how to make them. You will need a length of paracord and fold it so that you have one loop at the top and two at the bottom. Use the cobra weave to synch it together at the top so it doesn’t come undone and do this for the desired length. Then slip the two loose ends through the little loops at the bottom and slide on your beads and tie them off. Leave a little room for sliding the beads when needed.  Pretty simple really.

Of course I did this in black and not in any of the house colors. (I didn’t have it.) Oh well. I would have preferred to have red, yellow, or blue (especially blue, my house color) but maybe next time.
